Title: Investment Director

I work in the new investments team. This means I spend my time finding, understanding and backing great businesses. It’s a privilege to be honest, because it allows me to get to know entrepreneurial people and get behind what makes their businesses successful. My main focus is on the consumer sector, reflecting my experience in retail, but I get to look at all sorts of businesses. 

I graduated from the LSE with a degree in Economics and then spent 8 years at KPMG. I qualified as a chartered accountant there before joining the Strategy Group, advising private equity and corporate clients on transactions. In 2004, I joined Arev, a newly formed investment boutique with a retail sector focused private equity fund. I was responsible for successfully managing through this investment portfolio which included Mountain Warehouse, Jones Bootmaker
and Duchamp.

I joined ISIS early in 2011 to build on my experience of working with growing businesses and to apply what I’ve learned in making successful new investments. My highlight so far has been completing the investment in Autologic Diagnostics, who are a fantastic example of a business with a great team that's successfully growing despite the challenging economic times.

Little known fact: My surname comes from Cheemakalan, the village my grandparents are from in Punjab, India.

Outside of work I… love spending time with my family, being a bit of a kid again with my kids, playing football (still!) and trying to get fitter so that I can carry on playing...

What makes me get out of bed in the morning?
Ideally my son or daughter rather than the alarm.
